Community Guidelines
DC Community Values and Code of Conduct
Purpose & Transparency
This document exists to show transparency and help DCers thrive in the community.
As a DCer, you should be empowered to uphold the guidelines and report anything that is hurting the mission of connecting entrepreneurs.
Our organization strives to be transparent, and one way we do that is by showing our decision-making process for rule enforcement. The rules are designed around long-term community health. A small thing can seem harmless, but when it could be seen by a thousand people or when a small thing is done many times over… we have considered these things.
We hope these guidelines can help you get the most out of the community.
Thank you for being a member of this community and contributing to its success.
How to Be a Great DCer
When an entrepreneur joins the community and becomes a DCer, they agree to uphold the following:
Give More than You Ask For (The DC Golden Rule)
It’s those who give that end up getting the most in return. Share your knowledge without having an angle or seeking something in return. Host meet-ups, reach out to members, and put yourself out there.
Share Experience, Not Opinions
Our membership represents some of the most remarkable doers, builders, and entrepreneurs on the web. Discussions are at their best when we're sharing what we have done and what we have learned. Instead of sharing what others "should" do, share what you have done yourself when in similar situations.
Introduce Yourself When You Join a Group
It’s good community etiquette to introduce yourself when you join a new group (either when you join a WhatsApp or the Forum). Please share your name, your business, something you’re working on, and if you’re up for meeting other members.
Moderation & Enforcement
Our goal is to keep the forum helpful, welcoming, and easy for everyone to use. To support that, our team may occasionally make small edits (like updating titles or rephrasing questions) to help posts get more visibility and engagement.
We’ll also step in to remove anything that doesn’t follow our community guidelines, always aiming to keep the space positive and valuable for all members. If you ever have questions about a change, just reach out!
The Five Questions We Ask
When we make decisions about what’s okay, we ask ourselves these questions:
What would happen if everyone did this?
Would it lead to more connections or more noise? Is this a net positive for the community?
Does it create value, spark good conversations, or help members feel more connected? Is someone using the community to serve their own goals, or is there an ulterior motive?
We’re here to build something together, not to be someone’s marketing channel, or become a means to an end.Does this lead to someone’s product, service, or marketing funnel?
Who is benefiting? Is this action likely to increase visibility for a product or service?Does this foster inclusivity and understanding?
The DC is diverse with dozens of nationalities, first languages, and cultures. Sarcasm and inside jokes will not land as intended. Make an effort to help new members feel welcome, tread carefully when using humor, and give others the benefit of the doubt.
Confidentiality & Trust
Practice Discretion
What happens in the DC, stays in the DC. All profiles contain real photos, names, and businesses, and our members share things here that they wouldn’t share elsewhere; we respect and encourage that.
What Happens in the DC Stays in the DC
This community is built on trust. Members are incredibly open and vulnerable with each other. Our rules protect this trust. The conversations that happen here need to remain here.
Remember: We are a community of multiple nationalities, first languages, and cultures. Sarcasm and inside jokes in the group chats do not always go well. Please tread carefully when trying to be funny. Give others the benefit of the doubt and a beneficial reading.
Inclusivity, Communication & Cultural Sensitivity
Does this foster inclusivity and understanding?
The DC is diverse with dozens of nationalities, first languages, and cultures. Sarcasm and inside jokes will not land as intended. Make an effort to help new members feel welcome, tread carefully when using humor, and give others the benefit of the doubt.
Be Respectful and Courteous
All DCers are expected to treat each other with exceptional manners and professionalism. Give your fellow DCers the benefit of the doubt when necessary. Here, we seek to find the best in what others are contributing.
Be Human
AI should enhance, not replace your human-ness. Your contributions need to be genuine and come from you. AI cannot replace your thoughts or do the work for you when participating in the community. It’s noticeable, and it will be called out. No “limitless” recordings, and no using AI to talk to members.
Membership Access & Security
We are a community creating meaningful connections between serious entrepreneurs who are vetted, global, and remote. Everything the community does supports that mission, and we do our best to ensure anything that opposes that mission is stopped.
WhatsApp groups, events, and forum access are a benefit of your DC membership. You can trust that everyone in those spaces has been vetted, is a DCer, and shares similar values. It’s safe to discuss business, make plans together, and have peace of mind while doing so.
DCers deserve to feel comfortable knowing that the only participants here are members of the community following the same rules. That is why WhatsApp groups, events, and our forum are only for active members of the DC.
Not Allowed:
Sharing your DC login information
Sharing the invite links to the WhatsApp groups
Allowing non-DCers to access private DC spaces, including events
Any scraping, copying, or otherwise sharing of the data
All of the above are grounds for immediate removal
Let’s Keep it Real (Authenticity and AI in the DC)
While much of the internet is filling with distrust and spam, DC remains a bright spot: a place to connect with real, vetted, generous entrepreneurs.
When you step into any DC space (virtual or in person), you should trust that the people you’re interacting with are exactly who they say they are.
That’s part of our brand promise.
Recently, we’ve seen an increase in non-members and bots breaching WhatsApp groups and communicating with DCers who believed they were fellow members.
We cannot allow the community to become vulnerable to spam, impersonation, or synthetic interaction.
Let’s keep the community real:
Do not share links to DC WhatsApp groups or your DC login
AI agents or automated bots may not post or reply in the community
Do not impersonate members or use AI to simulate participation
No exporting, scraping, or sharing conversations outside the community
If recording or transcribing conversations, the device must be visible and participants informed
If you use AI to help draft something you share, make sure it reflects your own voice and perspective
AI is welcome as a tool to support your thinking and business. It should not replace authentic interaction or be used to simulate presence inside the community.
Violations may result in removal from DC.
Zero Promotion Policy
This pertains to anything DC-branded, including DC WhatsApp groups, Events, the Forum, and Juntos and Meet-Ups online or in person.
Members often ask for recommendations on services. It's OK to comment if your business can help. Keep it simple: Hey there, this is something I can help with, please reach out. Without offering a deal, sharing a link, or pitching your business.
If you are overly sharing your business, this will be called out by the community and will result in removal.
The DC is NOT a place to sell. The community is about being generous and providing value first and foremost. When a member focuses on sharing their business over upholding our values, they will be warned, and if necessary, removed.
Do not mention, promote or plug a business or service (yours or someone else's) with an offer or deal.
Do not make offers that relate to your services, plugging or promoting your business, or overly plugging/promoting others’ businesses.
Do not re-share articles from your blog, YouTube, Socials, or company site, or linking out to them.
Self-promotion, shameless plugs aren’t allowed, or any exception to these.
No Job Advertisements
Using emojis, excessive capital letters, or exclamations in Forum post titles.
Check the examples of our Zero Promotion Policy here.
Community Conduct (Sensitive, Harmful Behavior) Not Allowed!
This pertains to anything DC-branded. That includes DC WhatsApp groups, Events, the Forum, and Juntos and Meet-Ups.
There are a handful of behaviors that we don’t tolerate from members of the DC community. These apply to all members’ interactions, whether online or at in-person events.
Our experience is that the vast majority of members understand and abide by our group's values.
The guidelines below are designed to help us swiftly move on from the 1% who don't help foster a productive community.
If you violate the community spirit, you will be warned. However, in rare cases, you may be removed immediately.
Comments that are racist, sexist, political, rude, or polemical.
Rude or discriminatory comments are removed without warning.
We do not allow any political activism. Members who prioritize their political opinions over constructive conversation in the forum will be removed.
We do not allow mean-spirited, snarky, sarcastic, or derogatory comments (aka, troll behavior).
Sexual harassment*
Copying of any members' content, IP, or poaching of staff or clients.
If you copy a DCers business, or otherwise engage in unethical business practices you'll be removed from the DC.
Dirty jokes, rude comments, or unsavory behavior.
“Killing the Vibe” Behavior or Causing Conflicts and Drama. Aggressive tones, sowing discord, excessive sarcasm, and rudeness will not bode well for you. As well as conflict behavior, drama creation, being cringe, etc. This is a broad stroke, but we know it when we see it.
Membership here should not be interpreted as a 'right' to behave in ways that repeatedly annoy members or otherwise poison the well.
Behavior that threatens our vibe or puts people “on edge” will not be tolerated.
Sometimes, people aren't good team players, and that's okay; it's just not great for a community like the DC.
Having unproductive or personal debates
Unproductive debates, call-outs, or back-and-forth arguments are not allowed in DC spaces. If a conversation becomes accusatory, repetitive, personal, the DC team will intervene and members will be warned.
These exchanges are not productive and should not occur in spaces where hundreds of members can see them.
Using the community to pressure, shame, or gain leverage over other members in business disputes.
Public warnings, call-outs, or attempts to discredit other members regarding business dealings
While members may choose to do business with each other, all agreements, transactions, and investments are made at their own risk. The DC Community is not responsible for any business dealings between members, including deals or investments that do not work out.
If you choose to do business together, use explicit written agreements and contracts. Be honest and upfront in your dealings, particularly when challenges arise.
Members may not use this community to pressure, shame, or gain leverage over other members regarding business disputes. Public warnings, call-outs, or attempts to discredit others regarding past business dealings are prohibited. Handle any issues privately and professionally outside of this space.
By participating in business dealings with other members, you acknowledge that DC Community is not liable for any outcomes.
* Please review our full Sexual Harassment Policy here for more details.
Reporting an Incident and How Reports are Handled:
We appreciate members who help us improve the DC by reporting incidents. Even if something happens that’s not grounds for removal, but hurts the community experience, we want to know. Letting us know (even anonymously) helps us gather data points that will allow us to take action and improve the community.
Please do not think your report will cause issues. On the contrary, it will improve the DC.
When problems are reported, the DC team responds with reminders on how to be a great member (and when necessary, removal from the community), all while keeping the person who reported it anonymous.
We must keep the community a supportive and positive place to be.
All reports sent to Beatriz Alves, Alex Harling,, or to our form (this can be done anonymously) will be discussed with the senior DC Leadership team that week. Your identity will be kept confidential and is NOT shared.
We encourage you to report incidents to our team here.
If you'd prefer to message a female member, please reach out to Beatriz Alves or Yamile Yemoonyah. She has been in the DC for over 10 years and has graciously volunteered as a point of contact.
Penalties and Removal from the Community
The DC exists to create positive connections between entrepreneurs. When there are impediments to that, we don't stand for it and take action.
Depending on the infraction, the member will either be:
Given a written warning or reminder on the rules (this should be considered a warning)
Removed from the community
Warnings and Behavior Reminders
Written rule reminders (warnings) are generally sent when a member plugs a business, is rude, or there is a complaint about their interactions.
Removal from the Community
Members will either leave on their own or be removed from the community when they do not align with the community values.
The DC will choose to stop doing business with a member when they don’t uphold the community values and guidelines, or when their actions are contrary to them. Members are usually removed when:
There is a serious violation
There are multiple complaints, and patterns emerge
Specific Cases
The DC will not discuss specific cases due to privacy, but we do our best to be transparent about our guidelines and process here in this document. When a member is no longer in the community, it is usually because we saw that they weren’t a good fit and we didn’t align on a deep understanding of our guidelines and values. This is not a judgment of their character.
Thank you for reviewing these guidelines, and we hope we provided transparency around the values and guidelines that make this community great.
